The Communication and Informatics Ministry once more appeals to people, who usually use analog television, to be able to ready television sets at home to capture digital broadcasts
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Communication and Informatics Ministry announced that on December 3, 2022, as many as 25 cities and districts had officially adopted digital broadcast after the Analog Switch-Off (ASO) policy kicked off.
Those cities and districts come from four broadcast service areas: Riau Islands-1, West Java-1, Central Java-1, and Yogyakarta.
“Reports from TV organizers, Indonesian Broadcasting Commission, Monitoring Center, and the digital TV community say that TVs have ceased analog broadcasts and switched to digital TV broadcasts at 00:00 last night,” broadcasting director at the Communication and Informatics Ministry Geryantika Kurnia noted in a short message received here on Saturday.
The 25 cities and districts that have officially broadcast digitally are from the Riau Islands-1 broadcast area that include Bintan District, Karimun District, Batam City, and Tanjung Pinang City.
For the West Java-1 broadcast area, there are Bandung District, West Bandung District, Bandung City, and Cimahi City.
Boyolali District, Sragen District, Grobogan District, Kudus District, Demak District, Semarang District, Salatiga City, and Semarang City are covered in the Central Java-1 broadcast area.
The Yogyakarta broadcast area includes Kulon Progo District, Bantul District, Gunungkidul District, Sleman District, Yogyakarta City, Klaten District, Sukoharjo District, Karanganyar District, and Surakarta City.
“The Communication and Informatics Ministry once more appeals to people, who usually use analog television, to be able to ready television sets at home to capture digital broadcasts,” Kurnia remarked.
People, whose TVs cannot yet receive digital TV broadcasts, can install a broadcast converter device in the form of a Set-Top-Box (STB).
This device enables the TV to receive digital TV broadcasts from UHF antennae signals earlier used for analog TV broadcasts.
It can be purchased either online on e-commerce platforms or in person at electronics stores.
In order to be guaranteed best quality, the people were suggested to buy set-top boxes certified by the ministry, he noted.
The imposition of ASO in other broadcast areas is owing to the implementation of ASO in the Greater Jakarta area.
In the Nielsen Audience Measurement report, it was noted that since the ASO policy begun on November 2, 2022, the rate of digital television broadcasts view in the Greater Jakarta Area had gradually increased by up to 70 percent.
This initiative has a significant influence on residents of other metropolitan cities to switch to digital broadcasting, with an average increase of 42-59 percent in the last three weeks.
ASO is expected to be adopted on a national scale, as increasingly more number of regions have thoroughly take up on digital TV broadcasts.
